These low-rise (under six storeys), purpose-built flats are typically built on a concrete frame and cavity walled with a flat roof, concrete floors and possibly deck access and/or balconies.  Many were built using prefabricated concrete panels.  Due to the oil crisis of the 1970s, new building regulations were introduced, so blocks of this type could have been built to incorporate higher standards of insulation than was usual in early examples.  The original windows are likely to be metal or timber, either canopy sash or casement.

It is not possible to say which is the most common type of pre-fabrication.  The number of housing associations dealing with such properties may increase with large-scale voluntary transfers.
